17 “ pizza was a monster

Dear JR’s Management,

I’m writing to express my disappointment and concern about the experience my daughter and I had at your North River/Cornwall location today. I’ve been a loyal customer of JR’s for many years. My team and I work all across PEI, and whenever we’re in that area, we’ve always made a point to stop at JR’s for lunch.

Today, my daughter and I came in to place an order for our crew of six. While my daughter — who is 27 years old — was looking at the ice cream counter, trying to decide on a flavor, I approached the opposite counter to order our seven meals. The woman behind the pizza counter immediately began speaking to my daughter in a rude, hostile tone, telling her to move away from the ice cream counter and pay at the pizza counter. It wasn’t a polite reminder — it was delivered sharply, with irritation, in a louder-than-normal voice that startled both of us. My daughter hadn’t done anything wrong; she was simply trying to decide what she wanted.

After being spoken to that way, my daughter walked away from the ice cream counter without ordering, while the staff member continued glaring at her in an openly hostile manner. I then asked politely if another pizza would be coming out soon, since only one was available for slices. The woman responded abruptly and aggressively — “NO!” — spoken loudly, with attitude and clear hostility, before turning her back and walking to the back area behind the counter where staff prepare food. She never returned.

We stood there for several minutes, unsure what to do, but no one ever came back out to take our order. Feeling completely unwelcome, we left and went to another pizza place nearby, where we were treated with kindness and respect. While everyone enjoyed their lunch, we discussed our experience at JR’s and agreed that we would no longer be supporting that business going forward.

As a business owner myself, I can tell you that this type of behaviour toward customers is completely unacceptable. If anyone on my team ever spoke to a client that way, there would be no discussion before their dismissal. In one brief encounter, your staff member managed to lose the business of seven families who have been loyal customers for years.

JR’s has always stood out for its friendly atmosphere and good food — but that reputation is being damaged by this kind of treatment.
